Diesel and gasoline engines are two different types of engines that people can use in their cars. They are similar, as both use air, pressure, and fuel to power up the engine and the vehicle, but they both do the process in a different order. Diesel engines, like a ford powerstroke transmission, convert chemical energy to mechanical energy by using small explosions or combustions, by having pistons move and cause the air and fuel to interact.

This is done with a four-stroke engine, which is basically the number of steps that the engine takes to make fuel, and the number of movements the pistons make for the process. For a gas the piston goes down when the valve opens up, and then the piston shoots back up and compresses the air. Before the piston can truly reach the top, the fuel is injected and that causes the combustion. Then the piston does down due to the reaction and then the exhaust is pushed out when it comes back up, going into the engine.

Gas engines have a sparkplug, and that small machine allows the fuel to combust. Diesel engines do not, and they follow the same process, but only with air. One the air has been compressed, the engine shoots fuel into it, and it ignites on contact. For gas, the ignition happens inside the engine, and for diesel, the ignition happens after the process.

It can be a little confusing, but know that the process allows for your car to run, because without the spark, the energy needed just won’t start up and the engine won’t go.
